It has become increasingly difficult to pay attention to anything for very long. The demand for our attention comes from every direction, 24/7. However, much like gardening, if we pay attention to the plants in our garden, they will grow and thrive. On the other hand, if we fail to pay attention to our plants, they will wither and die.
Similarly, if we pay attention to the food we eat, we become healthier. If we pay attention to our credit score, it will improve. If we pay attention to where our money goes, it will grow. If we pay attention to our loved ones, our relationships will flourish. Conversely, what we fail to pay attention to will wither and could die. If we fail to pay attention to our finances, our resources will dwindle. If we fail to pay attention to our relationships, they may suffer and potentially end in divorce. If we fail to pay attention to our children, they will look for and find attention from sources without their best interests in mind.
The wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, said “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.” In other words, prioritize the things and people that are truly important to you today. Cast aside empty pursuits and focus on the things with eternal impact.
Remember, the calling on your life is a great one, and you are not here by accident. People around you depend on you, whether you realize it or not. So, what should you do now? What truly matters to you? What are you wasting your time on by giving it attention that it doesn’t deserve?
