Happiness is an emotion that can changed based on our circumstances. But joy is something deeper that we can choose regardless of what’s happening around us. When we choose joy, we take authority over our emotions. We declare, “This is the day the Lord has made, and I will choose to rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
But it’s easy to lose sight of this truth when we put our hope in worldly things or other people. When we do this, we give away the keys to our soul and allow the enemy to influence our emotions. We become vulnerable to the ups and downs of life and can easily be swept away by negative emotions like fear, anxiety, and depression.
Choosing joy means putting our hope in the Lord and trusting in His goodness and faithfulness, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. It means taking authority over our emotions and not allowing the world or the enemy to control our feelings.
So, today, choose joy. Declare your authority over your emotions and trust in the One who holds your future. Don’t let the circumstances of life dictate your emotions; instead, choose to put your hope in the Lord and rejoice in all He has done for you.
