What are we really owed in life?
We live in a time where it seems like we’re always waiting on something – thinking we’re entitled to certain things and outcomes. That someone, somewhere, owes us something. It creates a mindset that says, “This life is all about me.” Gratitude disappears. And in its place, entitlement and jealousy take root.
There’s a lesson I was taught years ago that has stuck with me ever since:
The world doesn’t owe you anything. But you owe it to the people in your world to give them your very best. You owe it to them, and to God, to use and develop the gifts He’s given you for their benefit.
We weren’t created just to receive. There’s no real significance in that. But when you live to give – when you pour out what God’s put in you – you begin to live a life that matters. A life and a legacy that leaves a mark. A life that impacts others long after you’re gone.
So, shift your thinking from what you’re owed by someone else, and start thinking about what those around you need from you: your consistency, your determination to give them your best, and your refusal to give up.
And when you live this way, you will receive the things you need.
