You have stayed long enough

One of my mentors always said, “You only coast downhill.” This rings in my ears whenever I find myself getting too comfortable. Comfort breeds complacency, and in complacency, we begin to coast. This is a dangerous place to be when you run a business and when you work for yourself, but more than that, it’s a dangerous place to be spiritually. If you aren’t growing, you aren’t changing, and you aren’t maturing in your relationship with God. This happens in relationships and marriages, often leading to failures, divorces, and mismanagement of resources.

As a man, husband, and father, if I allow myself to stay in a place of comfort and choose what is easy, then I risk demonstrating the path of comfort. I bring my family along for the ride. My decisions can mean success or failure for them, too.

Words of Encouragement
I am not going to let my children fail because I chose the path of comfort and what was easy for myself ”

Wisdom from the Word
The LORD our God said to us in Horeb, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain” — Deuteronomy 1:6

Thought to Consider
In this New Year, is there a place in your life that God is saying “you have stayed long enough”? Is there a spot that has become comfortable for you? God called the Israelites to leave the mountain. Perhaps they had become comfortable there. It was easy to stay. But God said move, because it would bring them closer to the promised land!
